MIMSUP Reunion Held at SPMC

On July 16-18, 2007, alumni from first three years (’91, ’92, and ’93) of SPMC’s Multicultural Initiatives in Marine Science: Undergraduate Participation (MIMSUP) program gathered at Shannon Point for a reunion.  Nine former students, many with family members, and Dr. Joan Mitchell, the NSF Program Director at the initiation of the program, attended.  Participants came to Shannon Point from all over the country, including Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Maryland.  The attendees enjoyed a mixer on Friday evening and a full day of activities on Saturday that included a lab tour, an algae pressing workshop, a cookout, a trip on the RV Zoea, and a dinner banquet.  A going-away pancake breakfast was held on Sunday morning. The reunion was initiated by the former students.  Shannon Point provided the venue and activities.  An additional 10 alumni responded to the invitation, but were unable to attend.
