STUDENT: Carissa Mann (Art: P-12) was awarded the MarSon Scholarship for the 2007-08 academic year. The scholarship was awarded to an outstanding P-12 major in the College of Fine & Performing Arts. Congratulations!

FACULTY: Elsi Vassdal Ellis (Design faculty) was awarded Distinguished Alumni, College of Fine & Performing Arts by the WWU Alumni Association and President Morse on Oct. 26, 2007. Elsi received her Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication with a Secondary Teaching Certificate in Industrial Arts and Art in 1974 and a Master of Education in Industrial Technology Education in 1977 from WWU. Elsi has received numerous awards and her work is housed in many public and private collections.

ALUMNI:No. 9 Creative: The Journal of Arts and Design. Congratulations to four Dept. of Art winners of the No. 9 Creative: The Journal of Arts and Design’s Ninth Quarterly Student Competition: Kanako Black (Design ’07), John Sloan (BFA Photo. ’08), Tyler Townley (Design ’07), Lutz West (Design ’07). Their work will be published in Issue Nine, due out in late October.

ALUMNI:Chris Walla (BFA Sculp. ’97) exhibits his work in CRAFT-ED, a show crossing the line between art and crafts, Fall 2007 in the University Gallery, Carlson Library at Clarion University. Chris currently teaches all levels of sculpture in the Dept. of Art and Design at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Senior Tyler Faulstich (Dwg.) has merged his dual majors in Geography and Art to fill a 33-foot void in Arntzen Hall with his senior project requirement for the Geography Dept.. He painted the 33’ mural on display on a basement wall in Arntzen Hall, on flexible plastic depicting the life cycle of the Chinook salmon.
