Ichmadophila
ericetorum
Fairy Barf Lichen 1 cm
Normally we think of crustose lichens growing extremely slowly, much
less than a mm per year. This species which commonly frequents
rotten logs and stumps, grows fast enough to keep up with liverworts
and mosses, over which it also grows, as seen here. The scale
moss, or leafy liverwort, Porella has been completely covered with the thallus of Ichmadophila here.
