Deer Fern
One
of the common evergreen ferns on the forest floor in the coniferous
(and other) forests of the Pacific Northwest. This fern has
two
kinds of fronds: in this photograph, the taller ones, with
narrower pinnae, are the fertile fronds that produce spores in
sporangia. The slightly shorter fronds, with broader pinnae,
are
vegetative, for photosynthesis only.
