Research
I trained at the University of Pittsburgh in Anthropology, and as a post-doctoral trainee at Penn State University also in Anthropology.   I direct the Biodemography Laboratory on the Western Washington University campus, which is designed to measure biomarkers of stress, metabolism and reproductive status.  Currently, I am working with scientists at the University of Washington in developing various urinary assays. My status as an affiliate with the UW's Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology allows ease in collaborative endeavors with members of this center.  My work over the last several years includes research on nutrition and metabolism, reproductive physiology, and breastfeeding behavior.

Cerebral fluid concentrations of large neutral and basic amino acids in Macaca mulatta: diurnal variations and responses to chronic changes in dietary protein intake – further analyses of amino acid metabolism and transport.

Patterns for the initiation of breastfeeding in humans -- a biobehavioral model of the time to initiation of breastfeeding based   upon data gathered from 25 previously published papers. 

Hormonal correlates for the initiation of breastfeeding in Bangladeshi women -- relationship between prepartum hormone levels and time to initiation of breastfeeding.

The distribution of postpartum amenorrhea in rural Bangladeshi women -- analysis of time to postpartum resumption of menses.
