John Bower's Science at Fairhaven College Website

Welcome to my website! I'm still building the site, but hopefully it will give you some ideas about my teaching and research at Fairhaven College. Drop me an e-mail if you would like further information about my teaching or research, or if you would like more info on science at Fairhaven.

At our Fairhaven New Student Retreat we will be discussing the issues surrounding the Makah Nation's gray whale hunt. We have mailed readings to new students. Click here for links to more information.

Last year Stan Tag (poet and fellow nature lover). Katie Davidson (Fairhaven senior), Gloria Ruyle and I taught a 15 credit course for first year students this fall entitled "Exploring Our Place on the Planet." The course was field oriented, including a camping trip on Orcas Island, a visit to the Makah Indian Nation, an overnight trip to Vancouver and weekly all day trips to natural and cultural sites. It satisfied 3 Fairhaven core class requirements. It's the type of hands-on teaching we love to do!

In other news: I can't stand to have a web site without pics of my wonderful family -my partner Susie, Owen (3) and Maggie (3 months!). Here is a link to those pics.
