For an anthology tentatively titled, The Ferocious Few: T.V.
Episodics and the New Just Warrior Women edited by Frances Early and
Kathleen Kennedy for Syracuse University Press. This anthology will examine the
complex controversial relationships between feminisms and violence as revealed
in three popular t.v. episodics: "Xena: Warrior Princess," "Buffy
the Vampire Slayer," and "La Femme Nikita." We are recruiting
essays that are informed by feminist theoretical debates over women's
appropriation of violence as portrayed in contemporary North American culture.
We are especially interested in essays that address the intersections of class,
race, sexuality and gender. We encourage submissions that examine individual
episodics, draw comparisons between the episodics, or that examine the
discussions on the world wide web that these series have engendered. We also
invite submissions that explore how young women and men-the primary audiences of
these shows-interpret the new woman warrior. We ask that authors keep their
language accessible to a number of potential audiences. Interested authors are
asked to consult Kathleen Kennedy's web page for more detailed information: www.wwu.edu/~kkennedy.
Final papers should be between 20-25 pages and adhere to the Chicago Manual
of Style.
