The Map Library houses a wide variety of resources including: topographic maps of both the United States and Canada, nautical and aeronautical charts covering local and foreign areas, atlases, globes, gazetteers, air photos, cd-roms, a few raised relief maps and satellite images. We also have other types of maps (e.g., physical, political, geologic, climatic, road) which are located in the main collection.
A collection of approximately 27,000 aerial photographs is maintained. Emphasis is on the Puget Sound Region, especially Whatcom County, but there are representative sets from different areas of the United States. Aerial photographs are difficult to file and handle and are relatively easy to damage, so we do not encourage "browsing". It is necessary to fill out an "Air Photo Request Form". We will then identify our holdings and pull appropriate air photos by the following business day.

The Map Library has a collection in excess of 1,000 atlases for reference purposes. In many cases, library users can anwer questions of a geographic nature by referring to an atlas first, rather than trying to retrieve a sheet map of a particular area. This is especially true in the cases of the Unted States and Canada, for we have numerous atlases of both. Records of our atlas holdings are accessible through the Map Library database.
