Etudier en France : quelques possibilités

Class Etiquette

The following should be obvious, but  « ce qui va sans dire va encore mieux en le disant » (what goes without saying goes even better when said):

- you should come to class fully prepared for, and engaged in, class discussions (not to mention fully sentient);

- class time is not the time to catch up on missed meals or sleep;

- should you arrive late or leave early, do so quietly, without disturbing the class;

- turn off your cell phone before entering the classroom;

- be courteous and cooperative with other students as well as with your instructors (a positive attitude towards learning will improve the experience for all of us).

Disabilities

        Please inform me as early as possible (for instance during my office hours, and preferably with any relevant written documentation) of any disability you may have, or of any factor that might impact your learning process.  You may wish to consult:

Absences

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to:
- inform me by E-mail or phone;

- study the pages / texts for that day;

- remain informed about class activities.

In order to catch up, you can:
- consult the class Website;

- ask classmates for their notes;

- make an appointment with me.

        Absences will count as excused for grade purposes only if they are due to a medical or family emergency, in which case you will need to show me written documentation, such as a note from a doctor or parent.

Letters of Recommendation

If you need a letter of recommendation, you should ask me well in advance (at least 2 weeks). You will need to provide:

- a copy of your resume, which should include all your relevant French classes and study abroad experience;

- a copy of your statement of purpose (preferably the one that you will include with your application);

- an addressed envelope (stamped, if it is not intended for campus mail);

- the recommendation form and any relevant written information on the institution to which you are applying (make sure that you fill out and sign your portion of the form).

        Nota Bene:  I do not write letters of recommendation if the “waiver of access” statement is unsigned.
