Reviewer Guidelines

1. Reviewers must be members of the AATF. Reviews can be written in French or English. Quotes should be followed by a page number, in parentheses. Use only one space after a period. Do not use section/page breaks, headers/footers, or page numbering. Please double space your review (but do not hit the “Enter” key at the end of every line).

2. The bibliographical heading should be in the following format (please include all items and use a hanging indent):

Nom, Prénom. Le Titre. Paris: Gallimard, 2009. ISBN 978-0-12-345678-9. Pp. 387. 35 €.

At the end of your review, type the name of your institution at the left, indented two spaces, with your name (no title) to the right.

3. Word Limit (Absolute!): 650 words. The word limit includes the bibliographical heading as well as your name and academic affiliation at the end of your review. Please note that reviews exceeding the limit will be edited down or returned to the reviewer for editing. The word limit for double reviews is 900.

4. In the upper left hand corner of the first page of your review, please type (single spaced) your full name, address, and E-mail. The page proofs of your review will be sent to this address. This item is not part of the word limit for the review.

5. Reviews written in French should be prepared in accordance with most French typographical norms. In particular, closing quotation marks precede punctuation. Also, ellipses are enclosed in brackets: [...]. However, French Review style differs by not inserting a space between a word and a subsequent semicolon, colon, question mark, or exclamation mark. In addition, English quotation marks are used, not French guillemets. Please note that these changes will reduce the word count of the review.

6. By editorial policy, the French Review does not accept reviews of translations or revised editions of previously published books.

7. Please send me your review as an E-mail attachment (preferably in Microsoft Word), not as a hardcopy. If you are unable to meet the deadline, contact me ASAP.
