This is our twelfth anniversary as a club at Western! The Scottish Country Dancing Club at Western Washington University was created during Fall quarter of 1994 by a few students who had taken the Scottish Country Dancing Class (offered through the P.E. department at Western) and enjoyed it so much they wanted to do it more often.

Aimee Hungerford, Jeanie Newton, Elizabeth Williams, Suzanne James-Bacon, and Arwyn Moilanen became the Club's founding members. With the generous help and leadership of Tom and Rosemary Read (both of whom teach classes at WWU), these students were able to set up a Club which still meets weekly to fulfill the Scottish Country Dancing needs of interested students and faculty.

The WWU Scottish Country Dancing Club has been represented since 1995 at the annual Highland Games, held at Hovander Homestead. A trademark of their performances has been to do a jig or reel medley each year, in which four different dances are performed in succession, twice through a piece. These dances have been carefully chosen for coherency and beauty by Rosemary Read. Above is a picture of the group who danced at the 1997 Highland Games.
