PLANTS

The group of volunteers known as "The Vegetation Group" has spent hours producing a description of the contiguous plant communities in the wetland along with an accompanying map overlaid on the aerial photo. A listing of 16 sample plots located in 12 of the plant communities with dominant species as well as a preliminary plant list have been completed. In addition, the "Photo Group" of dedicated photography experts has already taken hundreds of photographs of scenery, volunteers, vegetation and wildlife and is hard at work printing images for posters and other displays and digitizing them for other uses. Some of those photos will eventually be included at this Web site.

After a painful exercise in red tape, Ross Barnes was successful in obtaining permission to remove invasive weeds from Ship Harbor. Worried about Reed Canary Grass and Scotch Broom, Ross successfully petitioned Washington Department of Ecology, and organized and testified at a Port of Anacortes public hearing. Ross and other volunteers will organize a work party to remove the weeds sometime this summer.
