In studying these educators, we found that each was influenced by the times and society in which they lived. They each had a vision of how life could be made better for individuals and for the greater community. They each made decisions and took risks that changed the status quo of their times. There were definite differences in philosophy, especially surrounding the issues of who should be educated and why we educate.
The report and role-play round table discussion with the subject educators as participants was a successful method to achieve our goals. We have, and can communicate, a clear understanding of the major educational philosophies of the subject educators, as well as some of their role models, contemporaries, and mentors. Through the role-play round table, we experienced a flavor of the social and political environment in which they operated. We successfully met our goal to expand our knowledge about the foundations of adult education.
