Research interests include the behavior, ecology and physiology of larval stages of crabs. Previous work has included the role of behavior in determining dispersal capabilities of larvae and post-larvae and the influence of environmental factors such as temperature and salinity on survival and development rate of larval crabs. Current research emphasizes nutritional ecology of larval crabs, including the types of prey crab larvae require in their diets, their ability to utilize microzooplankton and phytoplankton as prey, and the relationship between feeding and settlement in post-larvae.
