Heat Transfer QuickTime Movies

Frozen Rose Smash QT Movie (200K)
A rose is placed in Liquid Nitrogen until is it at the temperature of liquid Nitrogen (-196oC). The rose is then smashed against a table top.

Boiling Water QT Movie (1.1M)
This demo shows that the temperature of boiling water remains constant as it boils. Adding more heat does not make the temperature higher it only boils away faster.

Atomic Motion During a Collision:
Solid collides aliened with the Surface (420K)
Solid collides tilted relative to the Surface (520K)
Simulated is an 8x8 two-dimensional array of atoms joined by lattice work of springs representing inter atomic forces. The "simulated-solid" is dropped onto a rigid surface. One can observe that the translational kinetic energy of the "simulated-solid" transforming into random vibrational energy of the individual atoms during the collision.

Atomic Collision Meltdown (236K)
If the spring constants ("interatomic forces") are made small then the simulation represents what happens in high energy collision in which there is enough macroscopic kinetic energy to melt the solid. IP Simulation of Atomic Collision
